BOSTON – A man is accused of a “tirade” on the Orange Line that included claiming a fellow passenger had a bomb.

Sean Devlin, 34, was on board an Orange Line train Monday night when he allegedly began yelling anti-Muslim slurs at a 61-year-old woman wearing a headscarf. He also accused the woman of having a bomb that would “kill us all,” said prosecutors.

Devlin also hit the woman in the back with an umbrella, according to the victim and a witness. He then kicked and punched a window of the train until it shattered, said prosecutors.

Transit Police arrested Devlin at North Station and said they found three small bottles of alcohol on him.

The 34-year-old, who lists his address in North Reading and at a Boston substance-abuse facility, had three warrants for misdemeanor offenses in Woburn District Court, Somerville District Court and Lowell District Court.

He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of violating a person’s civil rights, making a false bomb threat and malicious destruction of property over $250.

The judge ordered that Devlin stay away from the victim, witnesses and all MBTA conveyances if he is released on bail, which was set at $10,000.
