A man was arrested after an attempted car-ramming outside a mosque in a Parisian suburb, police said in a statement on Thursday.

No one was injured and the suspect, who drove his 4×4 into a crowd, was apprehended.

The attempt was foiled due to an apparent protective barrier around the mosque, according to police.

The motive of the suspect was not immediately clear.

Police chief Michel Delpuech said he “strongly condemns these events” and pledged to do everything possible for the investigation to “to clarify the driver’s motivation and determine his criminal responsibility.”

Le Parisien newspaper reported, citing an unnamed source, that the suspect was of Armenian origin, and was seeking revenge for the attacks on the Bataclan and Champs-Elysees [attacks] in recent years.

The thwarted attack comes just over a week after a British man plowed his van into Muslims taking a break from late-night prayers in London.

The Finsbury Park Mosque said the van “deliberately mowed down Muslim men and women leaving late evening prayers” at the mosque and the nearby Muslim Welfare House shortly after midnight.

Many linked the attack to an increase in anti-Muslim hate crimes, particularly since a van and knife rampage in the capital on June 3 that left eight people dead, which was claimed by the Islamic State group.
